Illustrator Visits

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
~ Pablo Picasso.

For the past fifteen years I have taught in many different schools through the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. I enjoy teaching and being in the classroom. Listed below are workshops and presentations that I offer.

Illustrator Presentation with workshop

“Can’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover” with illustrator Holly Stone-Barker

This presentation is the main focus for the student workshops.
I will show the students who I am and how I create my illustrations. The presentation will include the process of creating a picture book; showing examples of the different stages and learning the correct terminology. By the end of the presentation students will have a basic knowledge of how a picture book is completed. This presentation is age appropriate for grades K-5. Allow 40-45 minutes.

Workshop:
Creating Collage with Alliteration: Beautiful by the Bayou

The theme for this two day workshop is animals in Louisiana. We will use my book Mama’s Bayou for inspiration. During the workshop students become an author and illustrator. Each student will be given a word that they will use to write an alliterative sentence. I have a word bank to help the process. After completing the alliterative sentence, I will demonstrate how to create an illustration using cut paper collage. Students will then create an illustration using the alliterative sentence in the medium of collage. This workshop will give students the experience of being both author and illustrator and the process they go through. Grades K-5. Some modifications will made for the K-2. Allow 60 minutes per class.
